NEW KENT, Va. (August 26, 2026)—To commemorate the life of American icon Dolly Parton, Colonial Downs has declared this Saturday, August 29 Dolly Parton Day at Virginia’s premier thoroughbred racetrack. To honor the legendary musician, actress, and humanitarian, Colonial Downs will host a children’s book drive to benefit the Children’s Museum of Richmond Book Bank and play Dolly’s hits all day long.
The first 100 fans who bring a children’s book for donation will receive free tickets in the indoor, air-conditioned Colonial Downs Jockey Club, while all other fans who donate a children’s book will receive free Grandstand Reserve seats while supplies last. General Admission is free for Saturday’s race and all remaining race days this season.
“This Saturday, we are going to honor a true American legend by supporting children’s literacy in Central Virginia, a cause near and dear to Dolly’s heart,” said Bella Hodge, Racing Marketing Manager at Colonial Downs. “Even if she is no longer with us, Dolly’s impact will live on through the joy her music brings to millions and the countless lives she touched through the power of reading. Visit Colonial Downs on Saturday with a children’s book to support a great cause, enjoy some undeniably great music, and celebrate an American original!”
Gates will open on Saturday at 11:30am with a nine-race card beginning at 12:25pm.
Live thoroughbred racing at Colonial Downs continues every Thursday through Sunday until the Old Dominion Derby on Labor Day, Monday September 7.
Covered, reserved, and indoor seating is available for purchase at www.ColonialDowns.com where guests can find additional information on tickets, dining, and pricing, as well as any adjustments to post times. General Admission is free every day for the rest of the race season.
