NEW KENT, Va. (June 26, 2026)—This Saturday, the thoroughbred horses of Colonial Downs will share the spotlight with some smaller, furrier, but equally mighty little athletes as Virginia’s premiere thoroughbred racetrack hosts its first ever Corgi Races!
With incredible names like Fearless Jack, Poppy Pickles, Shorti the Corgi, Shotzie Louise du Foxpoint, and, of course, Winston Montgomery Vanderlou, sixty-four Corgis from five states are expected to take to the Colonial Downs dirt track for preliminary races in between thoroughbred races from 1pm to 2:45pm. The winners of each heat will compete in the finals at approximately 3:15pm.
Tickets are required for this premium racing event and are available for purchase at www.ColonialDowns.com, including General Admission tickets for just $5 with children five and under free. Registration for racing is closed and only competing pups will be allowed into the track on Saturday. Of course, there will not be any wagering on these fun and family-friendly races.
Live thoroughbred racing continues at Colonial Downs on Sunday, during a special steeplechase race day on Monday, and then every Thursday through Sunday until a special Labor Day racecard on Monday, September 7. The season’s additional Premium Racing Events, which require purchase of a ticket, will be the high-profile Festival of Racing on August 1 featuring the legendary Arlington Million, and the annual Wiener Dog races on August 15. General admission is free all other days.
