Colonial Downs and Rosie’s Gaming Emporium in New Kent now has historical horse racing machines on site.
The 600 historical horse racing betting machines — which allow users to wager on previously contested horse races — arrived at the facility on Monday, according to Colonial Downs spokesperson Mark Hubbard.
“This is yet another milestone in our effort to bring thoroughbred horse racing back to Virginia,” Hubbard said. “The historical horse racing machines have arrived in New Kent and the real fun will begin in mid-April.”
There are about 50-60 themes among the 600 machines, including game show and wizard themes, according to Colonial Downs Group director of marketing Nate Mize.
“The machines show you stats for each of the three races the player is betting on, with 10 horses total per each race,” Mize said. “Based off of the stats for each horse, you can choose which ones you think will finish in first, second and third.”
Players can choose to go through the stats and select horses or use the auto-play option, where the machine will pick the horses with the best stats for you, according to Mize.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium at Colonial Downs is expected to open between April 17-19, according to Hubbard.
Live thoroughbred horse racing is expected to start at Colonial Downs on Aug. 8.
