I FEEL LUCKY, CYBER SPY CAPTURE COLONIAL DOWNS VIRGINIA-RESTRICTED JUVENILE STAKES

NEW KENT, Va. (Aug 2, 2026) — A pair of $100,000 stakes for Virginia-restricted 2-year-olds highlighted Sunday’s program at Colonial Downs, with I Feel Lucky rallying from last to win the Hickory Tree Stakes for males and Cyber Spy leading throughout in the Keswick Stakes for fillies.

Owner-trainer Mary Lightner’s I Feel Lucky came from last to first to capture the Hickory Tree over seven rivals by 3 ¾ lengths. Lightner previously won the race with Candycrumbs in 2024.

Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, I Feel Lucky settled at the back of the field before swinging eight wide entering the stretch. The Florida-bred colt took command near the sixteenth pole and drew off to complete 5½ furlongs over a muddy, sealed track in 1:04.28.

“There appeared to be a lot of speed in the race on paper,” Maragh said. “I didn’t want to be that far back, but it was only his second race and he dropped back a little bit. We had a lot of confidence in the horse, so I gave him a chance to settle and come with a run.”

Midnight Ride edged Remembertheword for second. I Feel Lucky returned $14.20, $7.00 and $5.60 and improved his record to 2-1-1-0 with earnings of $77,500.

“I entered Candycrumbs in this race as a maiden a couple of years ago, and he was able to win, so we thought maybe we could do it again,” Lightner said. “This horse has shown us a lot. I debuted him on the turf because that was the race I was able to get him into. I didn’t think it would be his best surface, but he ran very well and earned a spot in here.”

In the Keswick, Gary Barber and Anthony Vinciquerra’s Cyber Spy went straight to the front and never looked back, defeating seven rival fillies by 1¾ lengths.

Trained by Mark Casse and ridden by Sonny Leon, Cyber Spy broke sharply and controlled the pace throughout, completing 5½ furlongs over a muddy, sealed track in 1:04.34.

“She was coming back on short rest after running July 24, so I was a little uncertain whether she could handle this test,” Leon said. “But I think she showed us today that she can absolutely compete with and beat this kind of company. She was very sharp leaving the gate.”

Mountain Mamba finished second, with For the Money third. Cyber Spy returned $6.00, $3.80 and $2.60.

Bred in Virginia by Hubert H. Vester Jr., Cyber Spy is by Cyberknife and out of the El Corredor mare Senorita Corredora. She remained unbeaten in two starts and increased her earnings to $112,500.
