Volunteers to Assemble Wooden Beds in Richmond Saturday
Volunteers from Colonial Downs Group, Rosie’s Gaming Emporium and the Henrico County chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national nonprofit organization, will be joining forces in Richmond Saturday, September 26 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm to build beds as part of “Bunks Across America” for local children in need. Media is invited. The event will take place at 8820 Park Central Road, Richmond, VA 23227 (space provided by eTec Mechanical Corporation). Standard COVID-19 measures will be in place (touchless temperature check, mask requirement, social distancing and hand sanitizer). Last year, more than 150 groups across the country helped build beds on the same day.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace will provide the beds to children in the community identified as sleeping on couches or floors through social service or law enforcement agencies. Colonial Downs Group Vice President of Safety and Security Curtis Marshall, who previously spent 27 years in law enforcement, is leading the project. “This is a terrific opportunity to provide a basic need to children in our community during these unprecedented times. By rolling up our sleeves together on a Saturday performing basic tasks, that anyone who can pick-up a hammer can do, we can make an enormous difference in so many lives. Our goal is that no kid sleeps on the floor in our town!” said Marshall.
The bed build is part of the Rosie’s Gives Back program. Rosie’s and Colonial Downs group have made significant charitable contributions and helped numerous civic organizations since beginning operations in 2019.
