Key Promotions for Summer Announced
NEW KENT, Va. (May 12, 2025) – Tickets for the 2025 summer racing season at Colonial Downs are now on sale. The expanded 41-day schedule will feature racing every Wednesday through Saturday from July 9 through September 13, plus a special Labor Day card on Monday, September 1.
Free general admission will be offered on most days, apart from four Premium Racing Events. These dates will have a $5.00 general admission fee via Ticketmaster. GA for children 5 and under is free.
The first of these premium event days is Friday, July 11, the opening Friday of the season, which features the return of the fan-favorite camel, ostrich, and zebra races, which will be held between thoroughbred racing.
The next premium event day is Saturday, August 9, when the prestigious Festival of Racing returns, showcasing the Grade 1 Arlington Million, Grade 2 Beverly D., and Grade 2 Secretariat Stakes. Last year’s Beverly D. was won by Moira, who went on to win the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and was later crowned the 2024 Eclipse Champion Turf Female.
For the second season, the fastest wiener dogs in Virginia will compete on the track during the Wiener Dog Races, taking place on Saturday, August 23!

The final premium day of the season is the newly retitled Old Dominion Day on Saturday, September 6. Stakes racing will be highlighted by the Grade 3 $500,000 Old Dominion Derby and the $250,000 Old Dominion Oaks. This Virginia racing tradition will also feature live music from The Deloreans, the ultimate ’80s cover band!

Post times for the 2025 season are as follows:
- Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays* at 12:30 p.m.
- Fridays will feature twilight racing beginning at 4 p.m.
- Special early post times of 12:00 p.m. are scheduled for both Festival of Racing (August 9) and Old Dominion Day (September 6).
*(Steeplechase racing returns to Colonial Downs on designated Thursdays. Three races are planned with first post time of 10:45a.m., The first flat race will start at 12:30p.m. For more information, please visit www.colonialdowns.com.)
