NEW KENT, Va. (August 12, 2026)—This weekend, Colonial Downs will host the most fun and family-friendly race days of the year featuring FREE general admission to Saturday’s third annual Wiener Dog Races and Sunday’s Princess and Tractors Day.
“There’s always something for fans and guests of all ages at Colonial Downs,” said Bella Hodge, Racing Marketing Manager. “Saturday’s Wiener Dogs are always a thrill for fans and tiny competitors alike, while our new Princess and Tractors Day on Sunday will give every kid a memory to last a lifetime. With these great family-friendly activities and at least eight live thoroughbred races each day, this is the best time to bring the whole family to Colonial Downs.”
Saturday’s third annual Wiener Dog races are always a fan favorite, with 64 tiny pups flying down the Colonial Downs dirt track as fast as their little legs will carry them. While this special day had previously required a paid ticket, Colonial Downs has now made general admission free for this one-of-a-kind race within the racing. Registration is now closed and only dogs in competition will be allowed onto the premises.
Sunday’s Princess and Tractors Day will feature beloved princesses and characters for photos and meet and greets, as well as heavy equipment from the team at Sunbelt Rentals. This special day will offer something for every kid, whether they want to meet their heroes or get up-close with some big trucks and tractors. Sunday will conclude with the weekly hobby horse race on the track for young fans.
Indoor, covered, and reserved seating is still available for purchase for either day, and for all remaining race days, at www.ColonialDowns.com.
Live thoroughbred racing at Colonial Downs continues every Thursday through Sunday until the Old Dominion Derby on Labor Day, Monday September 7.
